Position Overview

The Respiratory Therapist is responsible for delivering respiratory care to patients across a spectrum of health conditions. This role involves thorough assessment, strategic planning, implementation, and evaluation of individualized respiratory care plans. As a vital member of the multidisciplinary healthcare team, the Respiratory Therapist provides direct patient care, education, and preparation for ongoing care following discharge.

Educational Requirements

  • Completion of an Associate Degree Level program accredited by CoARC in Respiratory Therapy.

Experience Requirements

  • A minimum of 6 months of experience as a Respiratory Therapist at Rutland Regional Medical Center.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Certification from the National Board for Respiratory Care.
  • Current state licensure in Vermont.
  • BLS Certification from the American Heart Association.
  • ACLS, PALS, and NRP certifications must be acquired within 60 days of employment.
  • Registration as a Respiratory Therapist (not applicable to those hired before a specified date).
  • Completion of a Cardiac Dysrhythmia course (for Stress Testing Therapists).
  • Completion of STABLE training.

Skills and Competencies

  • Preferred basic EKG interpretation skills.
  • Proficient knowledge in respiratory care assessment and mechanical ventilation management.
  • Ability to administer surfactants to neonates.
  • Familiarity with respiratory equipment and Heliox usage.
  • Completion of clinical competencies for endotracheal intubation and other essential skills.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Windows applications and navigation.
  • Willingness to be on-call and work varied shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, with the ability to cover shifts on short notice.
  • Capability to conduct cardiac stress tests (day shift requirement).
  • Expertise in providing high-level direct clinical care.
  • Strong critical thinking skills applicable to all facets of patient care.
  • Conflict resolution abilities.
  • Leadership skills to guide shifts in the absence of supervisory staff.

Compensation

Salary Range: $39.98 per hour; Hiring Bonus Agreement: $10,000.00

Competitive Differential Rates

  • $4.25 - Evening Shifts
  • $8.00 - Night Shifts
  • $4.75 - Weekend Shifts
