Job Title: Lab Technician

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Lab Technician to join our team at Virginia Commonwealth University. As a Lab Technician, you will provide support in laboratory research, including molecular biology techniques and cell culture work, to the principal investigator and graduate students.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical support in laboratory research, including molecular biology techniques and cell culture work.
  • Maintain laboratory supplies and equipment, including ordering and stocking shelves, cleaning glassware, and autoclaving biohazard waste.
  • Perform molecular biology techniques, including qPCR, Western blotting, cell culture assays, and colony counting.
  • Conduct data analysis, including data entry into excel and similar programs, and simple data organization and formatting.
  • Maintain a detailed and clear lab notebook.
Requirements:
  • Detailed oriented, highly organized, and good math skills.
  • Previous laboratory experience in basic cell and molecular biology and biochemical techniques.
  • Good lab notebook documentation and ability to interact well with colleagues.
  • Minimal computer skills necessary.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion in past experiences or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • BS degree in relevant area (life sciences, chemistry, or other science) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Previous experience in cell culture models and approaches desirable for project success.
  • Ability to perform standard molecular biology techniques such as RNA and DNA isolation, qPCR, Western blots.
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems and interpret data.
