Job Summary

Advocate Aurora Health is seeking a highly skilled Vascular Sonographer to join our Diagnostic Imaging team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for performing a comprehensive array of sophisticated abdominal, OB/GYN, vascular, and small parts procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Diagnostic Imaging
    • Perform a wide range of ultrasound and vascular procedures, including abdominal, OB/GYN, and small parts studies.
    • Accurately recognize and document critical findings, such as deep vein thrombosis, ectopic pregnancy, and aortic aneurysms or dissection.
    • Operate and maintain imaging and monitoring equipment, reporting any issues to the Department Coordinator.
    • Assist physicians during procedures, such as amniocentesis, thoracentesis, biopsies, and cath lab procedures.
  • Documentation and Communication
    • Document patient history and images for analysis and interpretation.
    • Communicate with physicians, nursing units, and Emergency Department to provide preliminary results and STAT reports.
    • Correlate current exam data with prior exams and maintain accurate records.
  • Quality Assurance and Accreditation
    • Participate in department QA program and accreditation process.
    • Attend meetings and inservices to ensure technical competence and maintain department accreditation.
  • Patient Safety and Security
    • Maintain a secure and safe patient and work environment.
    • Clean and sanitize equipment, following manufacturer recommendations and infection control standards.
    • Apply sterile techniques and prevent cross-contamination.
  • Technical Support
    • Provide technical support for smooth and efficient operation of Ultrasound and Vascular Department.
    • Communicate with other departments to schedule exams and ensure smooth daily operation.
  • Professional Development
    • Stay up-to-date with the latest ultrasound developments and professional development opportunities.
    • Maintain CMEs required for registration and training of associates.
Requirements
  • Licensure and Certification
    • Medical Sonographer (RDMS) registration with Abdomen issued by the American Registry of Diagnostic Med Sonography (ARDMS).
    • Medical Sonographer (RDMS) registration with OB/GYN issued by the American Registry of Diagnostic Med Sonography (ARDMS).
    • Vascular Technologist (RVT) registration issued by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS).
    • Vascular Sonography (VS) registration issued by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
    • Vascular Specialist (RVS) registration issued by the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI).
    • Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS-AE) registration with Adult Echo issued by the ARDMS.
    • Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) registration issued by the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI).
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Education and Experience
    • Associates degree in Allied Health or Bachelor of Science degree in Allied Health Science preferred.
    • Typically requires 1 year experience in Abdomen and OB/GYN.
    • Typically requires 1 year experience in Vascular exams.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
    • Proficient skills in abdomen, OB, pelvic, endovaginal, small parts, venous doppler, carotid doppler, and arterial studies.
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with established time constraints.
    • Ability to communicate with patients and respond to patients in a timely manner.
