Position Overview

The Speech Language Pathologist is responsible for evaluating and treating individuals with communication and swallowing disorders, including dysphagia and cognitive impairments. This role may involve selecting and teaching alternative communication methods and conducting research related to speech and language challenges.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct assessments and interpret results from hearing or speech evaluations, barium swallow studies, and relevant medical history to develop treatment plans for communication and swallowing disorders.
  • Create and implement individualized treatment strategies for conditions such as stuttering, delayed language development, and voice disorders, in collaboration with healthcare professionals.
  • Document and participate in discussions regarding patient progress during meetings such as individualized educational planning (IEP) sessions and team meetings.
  • Provide instruction to clients on effective communication techniques, including sign language and voice modulation.
  • Inform patients and their families about communication strategies and coping mechanisms to enhance understanding and reduce misunderstandings.
  • Design and administer speech therapy exercises aimed at improving communication abilities.
  • Guide clients in strengthening oral and respiratory muscles to improve speech and swallowing functions.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary therapy team to ensure comprehensive patient care.
Qualifications:
  • Current Speech Language Pathologist License.
  • Preferred: Minimum of 1 year of rehabilitation experience.
  • CPR certification required.
  • Valid Driver's License and Auto Insurance.
  • Preferred: Experience in Long Term Care settings.
  • Preferred: Vital-Stim certification.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with HomeCare HomeBase.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, climb, crawl, squat, or kneel for extended periods.
  • Capacity to lift, carry, pull, or push weights up to 100 lbs.
