We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer Assistant to join our Transit Division team at Zuckerberg San Francisco General. As an Electrical Engineer Assistant, you will play a critical role in supporting the integration of new Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) systems with our light rail vehicles.
Key Responsibilities- Support the integration of CBTC systems with Siemens LRV4 vehicles, historic streetcars, and non-revenue vehicles.
- Participate in design activities with suppliers and contractors related to onboard vehicle equipment.
- Review consultant designs for onboard train control electrical and communications systems and plans for integrating the train control system with light rail vehicles.
- Perform systems engineering, including failure analysis, project planning, testing, diagnostics, and performance analysis.
- Work with the CBTC System Supplier, LRV manufacturer, and onboard equipment installers to support installation and vehicle integration.
- Evaluate the CBTC System Supplier's technical designs and installation materials for historic streetcars and non-revenue vehicles.
- Contribute to technical reviews between the CBTC System Supplier, LRV manufacturer, and onboard equipment installers.
- Respond to technical RFIs related to vehicle onboard integration and equipment.
- Review and comment on vehicle-related technical documents and correspondence from the CBTC System Supplier, LRV manufacturer, and other project contractors.
- Assist in the development of migration and installation plans for equipping the LRV4 fleet and historic streetcars with train control system equipment.
- Work with Rail Maintenance and SFMTA staff to coordinate and schedule work activities by onboard equipment installers.
- Witness testing of train control system equipment on vehicles and assist the project QA team in assessing the quality of installed components.
- Track completion of technical requirements and evaluate the system and individual subsystems and components for acceptance.
- Analyze and solve electrical and vehicle sub-systems problems, such as power, EMI connectivity, and fitment for onboard train control system components.
- Possession of a baccalaureate degree or graduate degree in Electrical Engineering.
- One (1) year of verifiable professional engineering experience performing at least three of the following tasks:
- Preparing or assisting in preparing studies, designs, drawings, sketches, and plans using AutoCAD and other software tools.
- Collecting data to assess project needs and define project scope through site visits, surveying, review of existing documents, reports, drawing and manuals, performing measurements, collecting samples, or/and interviews with stakeholders.
- Preparing or assisting in the preparation of contract specifications, lists of materials, cost estimates, schedules, and progress payments.
- Preparing or assisting in the preparation of engineering reports and reports concerning field conditions, the progress of projects, the results of studies, and other matters.
- Conducting data analyses and mathematical calculations, in order to determine type or size of material or equipment.
- Conducting routine field inspections of construction and repair projects in progress to ensure conformance with plans, specifications and codes; checks and records work progress at various construction sites.
- Possession of a valid Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certificate issued by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES).
- Possession of a Professional Engineer (PE) license in the field required for each specialty from the California Board of Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists.
