Job Summary

The Travel Histology Technician is responsible for the processing and preparation of tissue samples for examination by Pathologists. This role involves:

  • Utilizing processing equipment or manual techniques to ensure proper fixation of specimens.
  • Identifying and orienting tissue samples, embedding them in paraffin for accurate sectioning.
  • Performing microtomy to produce high-quality sections suitable for diagnostic purposes.
  • Creating consistently high-quality microscopic slides for review by Pathologists.
  • Conducting routine and specialized staining procedures to differentiate cells and organisms for diagnostic analysis.
  • Maintaining laboratory equipment and participating in preventive maintenance programs.
  • Assisting in the management of supplies and inventory levels.
  • Contributing to the department's Quality Improvement initiatives through active involvement in specimen identification and quality tracking.
  • Participating in the evaluation and validation of new technologies and instruments.
  • Engaging in training and orientation for new staff members.
Qualifications
  • Education: Graduate from a Specialty Training Program (required).
  • Preferred Education: Associate's Degree.
  • Experience: Minimum of 1 year in a laboratory setting (preferred).
  • Certifications: Certified Histotechnician - ASCP.
Work Environment

This position is typically performed in a clinical laboratory setting. The technician is accountable for fulfilling all job-specific responsibilities and adhering to organizational policies and procedures.
