Job Overview

The Washington County Sheriff's Office is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Correctional Officer to join our team. As a key member of our correctional facility, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and security of inmates, staff, and the community.

About the Role

This is a full-time position that requires shift work, including holidays, nights, and weekends. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing a wide range of working-level professional law enforcement duties related to operating the Washington County Jail.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safety and Security: Ensure the safety and security of inmates, staff, and visitors within the jail.
  • Supervision: Supervise and monitor inmate activities, including movements, interactions, and access to facilities.
  • Booking and Release: Process and manage inmate bookings, releases, and transfers.
  • Inmate Programs: Participate in and facilitate various inmate programs and services.

Qualifications and Requirements

  1. Graduation from High School or GED.
  2. Valid Utah Driver's License.
  3. Must be at least 21 years of age.
  4. A minimum of 1 year of previous corrections officer experience as a Utah POST-certified BCO.
  5. Out-of-state POST BCO / Corrections certified officers are encouraged to apply but must contact Utah POST to ensure eligibility to challenge the Utah BCO certification process.

Benefits and Compensation

The Washington County Sheriff's Office offers a competitive salary package, including:

  • $29.00 to $41.60 per hour (lateral starting pay based on DOE).
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance.
  • $50k term life insurance policy and AD&D policy.
  • Long-term disability provided by the employer.
  • 18 days of PTO each year, increasing with years of service.
  • 13 paid holidays per year.
  • Utah Retirement System Public Safety Retirement.

Additional Benefits

Retention bonuses are available for continuous years of certified officer service to Washington County, up to $10,000 for 20 years of service.
