The City of Long Beach is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Pool Lifeguard and Swim Instructor to join our team. As a key member of our aquatics program, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of our patrons while providing high-quality swim instruction and lifeguarding services.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor aquatics facilities and guests, ensuring compliance with rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Provide exceptional customer service and information to guests, assisting with lift chairs and resolving complaints and special requests
  • Instruct a variety of swimming and water aerobics classes
  • Clean and maintain pool areas as needed
  • Attend mandatory staff meetings and in-service training sessions
  • Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of all participants in your care at all times
  • Maintain daily logs and prepare incident, accident, and operational reports
  • Adhere to the department dress code and implement administrative and record-keeping policies and procedures

Requirements

  • Must obtain American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification and Water Safety Instructor certification within 6 months of hire
  • Must be at least 16 years of age (if under 18, must have a valid permit to work)
  • Must have access to reliable transportation to and from work
  • Experience in aquatics, recreation, and/or related areas is desirable

Working Conditions

This is an unclassified, non-career position with the City of Long Beach. The position requires a flexible schedule and the ability to work at various pool locations. The City of Long Beach is an equal opportunity employer and welcomes applications from diverse candidates.
