Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled High Pressure Steam Plant Specialist to join our team at Colby College.

About the Role

This is a full-time, year-round position responsible for operating and maintaining high pressure boilers, turbine generators, and auxiliary equipment. The successful candidate will have a strong mechanical aptitude and be able to work independently with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities
  • Operating and Maintaining Equipment: Operate high pressure boilers, turbine generators, and auxiliary equipment in a prompt, neat, and careful manner. Perform routine preventive maintenance and repairs as directed.
  • Monitoring and Recording: Monitor, record, and control opacity emissions in accordance with Colby directives and state and federal regulations. Read and record steam plant data hourly.
  • Safety and Compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant safety protocols and regulations. Ability to enter confined spaces per Colby safety policies.
Requirements
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Maine State High Pressure Boiler Operators license required.
  • Skill and Experience: Mechanical ability to operate, maintain, and service mechanical equipment and systems used in high pressure steam plants. Ability to operate and maintain Biomass and Natural Gas Boilers and controls, fans, pumps, and similar equipment.
  • Physical Demands: Position involves some sitting, though frequent movement is necessary. Walking, standing, bending, twisting, and considerable lifting is often required. Computer usage involving repetitive hand wrist motion is also necessary.
Working Conditions

The majority of duties require interaction with students, faculty, and staff. General indoor and outdoor campus environment. Some travel may be required for training or other business purposes.

Compensation and Benefits

We offer a competitive salary of approximately $65,000 - $85,000 per year, depending on experience. Additional benefits include health insurance, retirement plan, and paid time off.
