The Respiratory Therapist plays a vital role in the patient care team, providing high-quality, patient-centered respiratory care in accordance with the department's standards and the relevant state and specialty's scope and standards of practice.
Key Responsibilities- Perform and document patient assessment, including breath sounds, airway patency, and cuff pressure.
- Conduct diagnostic procedures to evaluate the need for, and response to, respiratory therapy.
- Administer respiratory care therapies, including oxygen delivery, aerosol medication delivery, and chest physiotherapy.
- Assist with placement of artificial airways and initiate, monitor, and maintain mechanical ventilation.
- Monitor patient for therapeutic response and notify provider and intervene as appropriate in the event of an unintended response.
- Assist with transportation of ventilator-dependent patients and respond to emergent patient situations, ensuring airway integrity and adequate ventilation during resuscitation as required.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 60 months of employment start date.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
- Neonate Resuscitate must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
- PALS Pediatric Advanced Life Support must be obtained within 60 months of employment start date.
- RRT/Respiratory Care Practitioner (RRT / RCP).
- Licensed Respiratory Therapist, or State Certified Respiratory Therapy Technician, or State Registered Respiratory Therapist, or Licensed Certified Respiratory Therapist (LCRT).
- Associate Degree, or Certificate.
