POSITION SUMMARY:
This role involves executing respiratory therapy techniques as per established protocols and physician directives to enhance the cardiopulmonary health of patients across all age groups, from infants to the elderly. Respiratory therapists are engaged in patient care within various settings, including intensive care units, emergency departments, and general medical/surgical units. They may also deliver respiratory services at additional care facilities associated with the mission of Washoe Barton Medical Clinic. Responsibilities include performing 12-lead EKGs and conducting outpatient respiratory assessments such as pulmonary function tests and overnight oximetry evaluations.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum Education Required:
- Graduation from an accredited respiratory care program.
- Proficient in the English language, encompassing reading, writing, and verbal communication.
- Basic computer skills.
- State Respiratory Care Practitioner License.
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
- Current AHA-approved ACLS, PALS, and BLS certifications.
- Availability for on-call duties for a minimum of 7 shifts every 6 months.
- At least two years of experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist in an acute care environment.
Policy/Procedures
- Evaluates and assesses each patient's pulmonary condition by reviewing medical histories, physical examinations, consultations, surgical reports, radiological findings, and laboratory results, along with direct patient observations such as vital signs and overall appearance.
- Utilizes data and patient/family consultations to make informed decisions that enhance patient outcomes.
- Delivers both physiological and psychological support in alignment with evidence-based practices and organizational policies.
- Documents assessments and interventions in the patient's medical records as per departmental protocols.
- Maintains current knowledge of competencies, certifications, and training.
- Provides comprehensive reports during shift changes or patient transfers, including diagnoses, treatment plans, and relevant clinical data.
- Integrates respiratory care with other healthcare providers to achieve optimal patient results and ensures accurate documentation of all patient interactions.
- Accountable for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care for patients across all age groups, addressing their unique physical and psychosocial needs.
- Responsible for the treatment and management of patients with cardiopulmonary deficiencies, including the authority to perform CPR and manage artificial airways.
- This position entails direct patient care responsibilities.
- As a member of emergency response teams, the Respiratory Therapist will respond promptly to all alerts and remain present until cleared by medical personnel.
- Participates in mock emergency drills.
- Oversees the setup, safety checks, monitoring, and troubleshooting of respiratory department equipment.
- Maintains intubation trays in emergency response carts throughout the facility.
- Conducts 12-lead EKGs as per physician orders and ensures proper documentation in the patient's electronic medical record.
- Maintains annual competency in pulmonary diagnostic programs and schedules outpatient tests efficiently.
- Performs and accurately documents pulmonary function tests as ordered.
- Attends a minimum of 75% of departmental meetings annually.
- Participates in ongoing training and competency assessments to stay updated with industry advancements.
- Maintains all necessary licenses and certifications.
- Completes required continuing education to uphold state and national licensure.
- Engages in mandatory safety training and demonstrates knowledge of safety protocols related to the role.
- Operates equipment safely and maintains a clean and organized work environment.
