Schedule:
Pool 1 - 4 shifts per month, 8-hour shifts.
As a Recreational Therapist, you will be responsible for developing, planning, implementing, facilitating, directing, and evaluating therapeutic programming across various specialized treatment areas. Your expertise will be utilized in an educational capacity with interdisciplinary teams and community resources. You will document activities within the designated program and possess a diverse skill set in experiential media.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, and assess programming in specialized treatment areas.
- Support the daily operations of the department in the absence of leadership.
- Oversee and evaluate student interns.
- Maintain a comprehensive understanding of psychosocial functioning in patient/resident groups and the application of expressive activities in psychiatric settings.
- Employ recreational activities to assist patients/residents in applying recovery skills taught in protocol sessions.
- Deliver personalized treatment within a group environment.
- Demonstrate awareness of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in art, music, dance, recreation, or related therapies; a Master’s degree is preferred.
- Certification or registration through the relevant credentialing board is preferred.
- A valid driver’s license in the state of employment is necessary.
- Certification in CPR from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross is required within thirty (30) days of hire, with annual renewal.
- Formal training in managing aggressive patients is required within sixty (60) days of hire, with annual re-certification, including self-defense training.
- Completion of Ropes and Challenge Course training by Rogers Memorial Hospital, with yearly renewal as applicable.
- Experience or education in working with children with mental health disorders is required for specific programs.
- Compliance with training requirements for Residential Care Centers (RCC) and Community Based Residential Facility (CBRF) is necessary for applicable staff.
Certifications: Art Credential - Cert, Art Therapist Registered - Cert, Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist - Cert, Dance Therapist - Cert, Music Therapist - Cert.
