Job Description:

We are seeking a highly motivated senior-level Marine Electrical Engineer to support the US Coast Guard's Ship Design Team.

The ideal candidate will have prior experience in one of the following specialized Marine Electrical fields: electric propulsion, machinery control, power generation or distribution systems, as well as familiarity with U.S. Federal or commercial shipbuilding programs, standards, and regulations.

The selected candidate will review electrical systems design drawings, interpret ship specifications, evaluate power and lighting systems, and electric or diesel-electric propulsion.

Additionally, the successful candidate will write electrical system specifications for concept, preliminary, and contract-level designs and ship modifications.

Responsibilities also include reviewing marine electrical systems, defining engineering requirements, developing system documentation and ship specifications, performing design and calculations, conducting design, analysis, studies, evaluation, and recapitalization of electrical circuits, power monitoring and control systems, electric propulsion, and power generation.

Apart from these tasks, the chosen candidate will conduct performance studies, develop reports, drawings, or specifications relating to electrical power and generation, evaluate the effect of new or modified electronics on overall system performance, review and adjudicate system design specifications, test requirements, Departures from Specification (DFS's), Request for Waiver (RFW), Engineering Changes (EC's).

Location and Travel:

This full-time position is based at the USCG Surface Forces Logistics Center (SFLC) in Baltimore, MD, but remote work options are available from some CONUS locations.

Up to 10% travel is anticipated for ship checks.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Marine or Electrical Engineering, or another relevant technical, engineering, or a marine discipline from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • At least six (6) years of progressive experience in Marine Electrical fields, including five (5) years of documented experience working in one of the following specialized fields: electric propulsion, machinery control, power generation or distribution systems.
  • One (1) year of experience related to U.S. Federal or commercial ship or boat building acquisition programs required.
  • Experience with DoD ACAT I or DHS Level I shipbuilding programs preferred.
  • Knowledge of U.S. Navy Power Distribution Architecture, USN, USCG, ABS, and/or commercial ship design rules and regulations.
  • Relevant certifications, such as Professional Engineer (PE) license, Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, DHS Systems Engineering certification, and DHS Program Management certification, preferred.
  • Proficient with common productivity software and strong communications skills.
