Job Overview:

The Clinical Pharmacist specializing in Perioperative Services is responsible for delivering comprehensive pharmaceutical care to patients across various settings including the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), Same Day Surgery, Operating Rooms (ORs), Interventional Radiology, Labor and Delivery OR, and Endoscopy. This role is integral to a multidisciplinary team focused on adhering to the Surgical Care Improvement Project guidelines. The pharmacist will strategize, organize, assess, and compile the facility's medication utilization initiatives as needed, while also contributing to cost containment strategies.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Current registration as a pharmacist in New Jersey; active New Jersey licensure is mandatory.
  • Licensed pharmacist immunizer registration in New Jersey.
  • Graduation from an accredited School of Pharmacy with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or PharmD degree.
  • Completion of a PGY1 residency program or equivalent professional experience.
  • Board of Pharmacy Specialty Certification must be obtained within one year of employment.
  • BLS and ACLS certifications are required within six months of employment.

Preferred:

  • Completion of a PGY2 residency or equivalent experience is preferred.

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Full-Time
  • Day shifts
  • Saturday coverage every six weeks

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as a drug information resource for all healthcare team members, tailored to specific patient demographics and available for consultations upon request.
  • Promote professional development through engagement in educational programs, literature review, workshops, and in-service training.
  • Serve as a communication bridge between the Pharmacy Department and nursing and medical staff regarding medication therapy management, including prescription orders, errors, and complaints.
  • Provide mentorship to pharmacy students and residents in PGY1 and PGY2 programs.
  • Oversee medication prescribing practices in line with established drug usage criteria prior to dispensing, as defined by the Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee.
  • Support the Director of Pharmacy and the Assistant Director of Clinical Pharmacy Services in advancing clinical services.
  • Participate actively in assigned activities, committees, and projects.
  • Advise on clinical objectives, policies, procedures, order sets, guideline development, departmental communications, and financial forecasting.
  • Contribute to the achievement of departmental, facility, and pharmacy enterprise goals, along with quality improvement initiatives.
  • Document and provide analytical support for all clinical activities, interventions, medication errors, and adverse drug reactions according to the Department of Pharmacy's criteria.
  • Engage in the training and development of pharmacy department personnel, delivering at least one clinical presentation annually.
  • Utilize the medication screening process to ensure medication orders are complete, appropriate, legally compliant, and prioritized.
