Position Overview

The Artisan Bakery Trainee plays a vital role in our bakery department, assisting in the production of high-quality baked goods while ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership:

• Welcome customers warmly and assist them as needed.
• Report any maintenance or equipment issues to the department manager promptly.
• Maintain vigilance regarding security standards and report any suspicious activities.
• Foster effective communication within the department and across the organization.
• Inform the department manager of any personnel issues or policy breaches that may impact operations.
• Perform additional tasks as assigned by management.

Operational Duties:

• Maintain a professional appearance and adhere to company dress code, including wearing a designated hat or hair net.
• Follow the scheduled hours as determined by the bakery team leader.
• Comply with all local, state, and federal health regulations, ensuring safety and sanitation standards are met.
• Assist in receiving and unloading deliveries, verifying items against vendor invoices for accuracy.
• Implement proper rotation of bakery products to ensure freshness, adhering to the first-in, first-out method.
• Follow training instructions diligently and adhere to company recipes.
• Learn essential skills such as measuring ingredients, mixing, and baking processes.
• Participate in production planning and assist in the preparation of various baked goods.
• Operate bakery equipment, including mixers and ovens, ensuring correct temperatures and baking times.
• Support inventory management by assisting in ordering and maintaining stock levels.
• Handle damaged or spoiled products according to company policies.
• Practice conservation of utilities and maintain cleanliness in the work area.
• Conduct regular checks on refrigeration equipment to ensure proper functioning.
• Utilize equipment responsibly and maintain an organized workspace.

Safety Protocols:

• Complete required safety training and use personal protective equipment as necessary.
• Occasionally lift up to 50 pounds, including bags of flour and other heavy items.
• Adhere to all safety regulations and protocols.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• At least one year of experience in bakery operations or a related field is desirable.

Skills:

• Ability to calculate measurements and ratios for ingredient preparation.
• Effective communication skills to interact with customers and team members.
• Proficient in reading and understanding operational instructions and company policies.

Physical Requirements:

The physical demands of this position include the ability to stand, lift, and perform routine tasks in a bakery environment. Candidates must be able to work in varying temperatures and handle bakery ingredients safely.
