We are seeking a seasoned multi-line underwriter to spearhead and enhance one of our latest specialty package programs, focusing on Franchised Equipment Dealers. You will join a vibrant organization committed to scaling our operations effectively while recognizing individual contributions and promoting teamwork. Your primary responsibilities will include independently evaluating and underwriting intricate risks, managing relationships with carriers and brokers, and collaborating with our sales team to help The Ladders cultivate a profitable book of business.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct advanced underwriting functions on a daily basis.
- Utilize your expertise to underwrite and negotiate complex customer accounts, aiming to reduce risk and enhance profitability.
- Underwrite various lines including General Liability, Property, Inland Marine, Auto, Workers Compensation, and Excess.
- Implement rate strategies for the renewal portfolio.
- Propose innovative alternatives regarding pricing, coverage, etc., to support favorable risks.
- Engage underwriting assistants for support and administrative tasks as specified in workflow documents.
- Execute and communicate program strategies to the team.
- Maintain consistent communication across all functional areas - leadership, sales, and operations.
- Ensure underwriting files comply with The Ladders' policies and procedures.
- Conduct soft audits.
- Order and review inspections to verify that accounts align with initial underwriting information and take action when unacceptable risk characteristics are identified.
- Assist colleagues in resolving issues related to program objectives.
- Ensure compliance with underwriting standards, objectives, and guidelines of the program.
- Implement updates to written program guidelines as necessary.
- Organize and review files during audits conducted by carrier partners.
- Develop and maintain strong business relationships with agents and carriers to attract, develop, and retain profitable business for your assigned portfolio.
- Collaborate with senior management on product development, processes, and underwriting strategies.
- Submit referrals to carriers as directed by the Senior Vice President of Underwriting.
- Comprehend all programs and products at The Ladders to effectively advocate within the agency community.
- Actively manage the program to achieve production targets.
- Undertake special projects as assigned.
This role will involve leading underwriting efforts for an emerging program within the Franchised Equipment Dealer sector. The ideal candidate will possess a solid understanding and experience in the dealer segment (whether auto or equipment). The Ladders offers a unique and comprehensive solution for this industry, providing an all-lines solution to our clients.
- Multi-line coverage is available (including property, GL, auto, inland marine, workers compensation, and excess).
- High level of front-line underwriting authority.
- Types of risks considered include, but are not limited to: Construction, Agricultural, Forestry, and Warehouse Equipment, Forklifts, Lift Trucks, Rack, Shelving & Storage Equipment, etc.
- Program is operational with existing premium and a pipeline for new business.
- Sales support to identify new business opportunities.
- 5-8 years of progressive underwriting experience with a strong background in commercial property, inland marine, and casualty, particularly in dealership programs (auto or franchise preferred).
- Multi-line P&C experience, including Commercial Property, Auto, Dealers Open Lot, General Liability, and Inland Marine.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within a team.
- Proven ability to cultivate relationships with carriers and brokers.
- Positive approach to customer service and relationship management.
- Strong analytical and logical reasoning skills.
- Attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to solve problems and manage multiple tasks.
- Self-motivated with effective time management skills.
- Proficient computer skills and adaptability to new technologies and workflows.
The salary range for this position is competitive, with opportunities for bonus incentives. The final offer will be based on geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience, among other factors.
