Job Description and Duties

Under the direction of the Chief of Primary Care or designee and Surgeon or designee, the Supervising Clinical Laboratory Technologist will be responsible for:

  • Supervising the work of a large clinical laboratory team
  • Assigning, directing, and checking the work of laboratory personnel, including technologists and nontechnical assistants
  • Conferring with medical personnel and coordinating laboratory operations with medical staff requirements
  • Planning and implementing the technical clinical laboratory program
  • Arranging for and conducting special research projects
  • Staying informed on current developments in the clinical laboratory field
  • Reviewing laboratory procedures and developing and installing necessary changes
  • Instructing workers in laboratory principles and practices, evaluating their work, and taking appropriate action
  • Supervising and making bacteriological analyses of specimens for suspected communicable diseases
  • Making chemical analyses of blood and urine, making smears, making and examining cultures, preparing culture media, stains, reagents, and stock solutions, mounting and staining specimens for microscopic examinations, and directing the charting, tabulating, and recording of tests
  • Making blood counts and estimating needs and ordering supplies, materials, and equipment for the laboratory

Requirements:

  • Possession of a Clinical Laboratory Technologist's license or a similar license of equal or higher level issued by the State Department of Health Services
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks effectively
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information
