About the Role:

The Chief Sustainability and Risk Manager is a key member of the Long Beach Transit team, responsible for ensuring the organization's safety management system meets regulatory requirements. This role involves directing efforts associated with the System Safety Management System (SMS) while applying processes defined by the Federal Transit Administration (FTA).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement safety, health, and environmental compliance programs for company-wide operations.
  • Oversee the agency's National Transit Database (NTD) reporting requirements.
  • Serve as the safety oversight representative for Long Beach Transit and maintain necessary training and certification under the FTA.
  • Inspect and verify agency compliance with safety, health, and environmental policies and regulations.
  • Respond to and investigate complaints or incidents related to bus safety, fleet and systems safety, and environmental issues.
  • Review, revise, and/or develop manuals, procedures, and other communications related to safety programs and policies.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or Environmental-related fields.
  • Five years of related experience in safety and/or industrial/environmental background.
  • Prior experience in Safety Management Systems (SMS) or Environmental Sustainability and Management Systems (ESMS) design, oversight, worker training, risk assessment strategies, worksite evaluation, field auditing, preventive and corrective action identification, and hazard mitigation.

Compensation:

$107,407- $144,999 per year (Depending on Qualifications)
