Key Responsibilities- Assist surgeons with procedures, maintaining a safe and sterile environment.
- Coordinate with other disciplines to ensure seamless patient care.
- Provide basic patient assistance, connecting patients to clinical equipment as needed.
- Practice aseptic techniques, preparing for surgery and maintaining a clean and organized workspace.
- Participate in surgical Time Out and operating room briefing, ensuring accurate identification of surgical sites.
- Maintain accurate accounts of supplies, verifying counts with the circulating nurse.
- Prepare, identify, and verify all specimens obtained during surgical procedures.
- Dispose of linens, needles, and sharps in appropriate containers.
- Assess wounds and apply or change sterile dressings as instructed by the registered nurse.
- Maintain and document universal precautions, initiating emergency procedures as needed.
- Participate in the admission and discharge process, performing billing as appropriate.
- Participate in on-call rotations, acting as a preceptor for students assigned to the surgical unit.
- Adhere to all policies, protocols, and standards of care, performing quality control monitoring.
- Perform additional duties, including specimen collection, pleure-vac, and traction setup.
