Job Summary

This position is a Staff Psychologist role within the Mental Health and Behavioral Science Service (MH&BSS) at the VETERANS HEALTH ADMINISTRATION. The Staff Psychologist will provide direct patient care and administrative duties, working with inpatient psychiatric and/or medical floors as well as the Emergency Room. The ideal candidate will have a doctoral degree in psychology and experience in providing psychological services to treat behavioral, psychological, and mental health problems.

Responsibilities

The Staff Psychologist will be responsible for providing a full range of psychodiagnostic services, including psychological assessments and diagnoses of mental disorders. They will also educate patients, family members, and significant others, and provide psychological services to treat the full spectrum of behavioral, psychological, and mental health problems. Additionally, the Staff Psychologist will utilize evidence-based psychosocial and environmental interventions to reduce behavioral and psychological symptoms associated with dementia and other neuropsychological and mental health conditions.

Requirements

To be eligible for this position, applicants must have a doctoral degree in psychology from a graduate program in psychology accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA), the Psychological Clinical Science Accreditation System (PCSAS), or the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA). They must also have successfully completed a professional psychology internship training program that was accredited by APA or CPA at the time the program was completed and that is consistent with the assignment for which the applicant is to be employed. Furthermore, applicants must hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice psychology at the doctoral level in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or the District of Columbia.

Working Conditions

The Staff Psychologist will work in a fast-paced environment, providing direct patient care and administrative duties. They will be required to work independently and as part of a team, and will be expected to maintain confidentiality and adhere to operational policies and procedures established for the MH&BSS and Psychology Section. The ideal candidate will be able to work effectively in a team environment, communicate effectively with patients, family members, and healthcare professionals, and maintain a high level of professionalism and integrity.
