Position Overview:
The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is responsible for delivering both urgent and non-urgent medical care and transportation services to individuals experiencing health crises or injuries.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide pre-hospital emergency and non-emergency medical care and transport services to patients.
- Ensure the safe and effective management of all patient care duties during transport.
- Document patient transport details accurately and promptly, adhering to established best practices.
- Maintain equipment in a state of readiness for immediate use.
- Operate emergency vehicles safely while managing patient transport duties.
- Deliver high-quality medical transportation services to patients requiring wheelchair or livery assistance.
- Complete all assigned continuing medical education (CME) and training materials punctually.
- Assist in the orientation and training of new team members.
- Keep crew quarters organized and well-maintained.
- Participate in the training of students during their practical rotations within the EMS system.
- Adhere to all compliance requirements associated with the role.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Ensure cleanliness of vehicles and medical equipment, both internally and externally.
- Propose operational improvements to enhance the efficiency of the EMS system.
Qualifications:
Required: High School diploma; valid motor vehicle operator's license in Connecticut; compliance with random drug screening; current BLS CPR certification; timely completion of required CME materials.
For advanced EMTs: Maintain medical control authorization from designated hospitals; submit CME records by due dates.
Licensure: Valid CT DPH certification at EMT and/or AEMT level; current Basic license with 0-6 months experience; current EMT-Intermediate license with 6 months to 1 year experience.
Experience: Minimum of six months in a related role.
Preferred: Certifications in PALS, ACLS, PHTLS, hazardous materials awareness, and EVOC.
Working Conditions:
Manual Skills: Requires manual dexterity and coordination.
Occupational Risks: Involves significant occupational hazards.
Physical Demands: Requires heavy physical effort, potentially lifting up to 50 lbs.
Environment: Exposure to various environmental factors including dirt, odors, and noise.
