Position Summary:
The Surgical Veterinary Technician plays a vital role in delivering exceptional care for both shelter animals and those presented by the public. This position encompasses a range of technician responsibilities including surgical preparation, assisting veterinarians, managing medical documentation, educating pet owners, and ensuring effective communication between clients and the medical team. All activities are aligned with the mission of the Providence Animal Center, prioritizing safety for both humans and animals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Register patients in the electronic system and administer suitable anesthetics.
- Carry out catheterization and dental procedures as required.
- Monitor patients' vital signs and prepare medications for their discharge.
- Provide post-operative care instructions to pet owners.
- Assist with various veterinary tasks and maintain cleanliness in the surgical area.
- Keep precise medical records and implement prescribed treatments.
- Perform routine procedures such as nail trimming, suture removal, and more.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of one year of experience in animal handling and veterinary support.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment and remain calm during emergencies.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and strong communication skills.
- Capability to handle animals of various sizes and foster positive working relationships.
- Physical capacity to lift weights, stand for extended periods, and work under pressure.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to stand for prolonged periods, lift heavy objects, and manage large dogs.
- Willingness to perform tasks that involve bending, lifting, and potential exposure to allergens.
