Job Summary

The Radiologic Technologist will work under the supervision of the Director and/or designee, performing routine and special procedure imaging. The ideal candidate will prepare patients for procedures, assist Radiologists as needed, and operate and care for equipment being used. This role requires adherence to established radiology standards of care, application of principles of radiation protection, and a commitment to providing excellent customer service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and position patients correctly for specific examinations, observing different and special requirements for each protocol.
  • Assume responsibility for designated areas and/or procedures, producing good technical images and reviewing completed exams for quality and completeness.
  • Assist physicians during procedures as necessary, performing equipment Quality assurance and calibrations as needed.
  • May be required to work holidays, overtime, and/or day, evening, and overnight shift coverage to maintain adequate and safe coverage for the outpatient facility.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of all work areas, equipment, and accessories, reporting all malfunctioning equipment to Bio Med or supervisor.
  • Process images or print CDs as needed, performing routine office tasks such as answering phones and checking-in patients.
  • Show Radiologist films and call reports to the attending physician, documenting communications if necessary.
  • Provide clinical instructions to students, treating all people/staff in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Introduce self and educate each patient or family member regarding the examination ordered, demonstrating knowledge and skill in providing care based on age, physical, and psychosocial needs of different patient populations.
  • Perform other related duties as required, attending staff meetings and in-services, and covering rotation to other outpatient sites.
Requirements
  • Graduate of an allied health education and accredited radiography school or hospital-based program.
  • NY State DOH Licensure or Limited Permit required and certification through ARRT-RT and/or registered RT (R).
  • Continuing education requirements need to be upheld to meet the standards set forth by governing bodies.
  • Current standards are 24 CE credits over a two-year period depending on year of birth.
  • DOH IV certification preferred or by completion of 6 month orientation.
  • BLS certification through the (AHA) American Heart Association is required or must be completed with 90 days of hire.

Physical/Mental Demands/Requirements & Work Environment

May be exposed to chemicals necessary to perform required tasks. Any hazardous chemicals the employee may be exposed to are listed in the hospital's SDS (Safety Data Sheet) database and accessed through the hospital's Intranet site (Employee Tools/SDS Access). A copy of the SDS database can also be found at the hospital switchboard, saved on a disc.

Position requires ability to move about freely at least 85 per cent of the time. Must be able to remain stationary for extended/prolonged periods. Frequently moves/transports objects up to fifty (50) pounds and must be able to move patients of all weights with a minimum of one assist or assistive device/equipment.

Must be able to work in environment with continuous interruptions. Must be able to assess and respond to rapidly changing situational needs of patients, department, and hospital. Must be able to adapt in a high stress and fast-paced environment with multiple interruptions. Must be able to detect sounds and respond to emergency sounds/signals at all times. Must be able to constantly operate computer, equipment, and other devices.

Position requires ability to concentrate on fine detail with interruptions and attend to tasks for more than sixty (60) minutes at a time. Individual must be able to understand and relate to theories behind several related concepts and remember multiple tasks given throughout course of the day.
