Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver professional nursing care to patients under general supervision, adhering to national and company standards for specialty regulations. Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to assess and manage patient and family needs.
  • Uphold the US Oncology Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.
  • Plan, implement, coordinate, evaluate, and promote continuity of care in accordance with established standards and practices. Conduct health assessments by interviewing patients about their current status and medical history. Collect and document nursing assessments and interventions. Review and communicate health status assessments, physical examinations, relevant laboratory data, radiographic data, and psychosocial evaluations to the healthcare provider. Assess patient and family needs and provide educational resources. Offer psychosocial support to patients and families while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Prepare and administer therapies under physician supervision. Administer medications and blood products accurately, ensuring proper dosage, route, timing, and technique. Ensure pre-authorization and consent forms are completed prior to therapy administration. Facilitate dose modifications by assessing patients, reviewing lab results, consulting treatment protocols, and discussing dosage adjustments with the physician. Perform venipuncture, access implanted ports, and maintain central line catheter devices.
  • Maintain precise documentation of patient care and treatments provided. Understand reimbursement procedures and charge capture.
  • Follow OSHA guidelines when handling cytotoxic agents, biohazardous waste, and materials potentially infected with bloodborne pathogens.
  • Adhere to all disinfection protocols and maintain equipment according to quality control standards.
  • Collaborate with other professionals in the field.
  • Assist and collaborate with clinical research initiatives. Serve as a resource for LPNs/LVNs and medical assistants. Provide nursing coverage for satellite offices as required.
Qualifications

  • 0-3 years of nursing experience, with at least one year in oncology preferred.
  • Graduate from an accredited nursing program; BSN preferred. Current RN state license and registration with the State Board of Nursing in the practicing state.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Commitment to maintaining continuing education requirements.
