Job Summary

The Area Manager-CDL is a subject matter expert and recognized leader on all matters related to the CDL program for Ancora Education. This person is responsible for the administration of a best-in-class CDL program that adheres to all Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and state regulatory agency regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, organize, and administer training to Program Directors and Driver Trainers
  • Provide subject matter expertise for all aspects of running a successful, high-quality, compliant, and safe CDL program
  • Visit and direct Program Directors and Driver Trainers regarding compliance and operational best practices for all aspects of CDL
  • Develop and work with other corporate CDL staff to scale training efforts
  • Assist with recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, and training of new CDL staff
  • Review daily, weekly, and monthly reports and discuss training and results with CDL teams
Operational Compliance
  • Oversee safety and compliance programs mandated by FMCSA, State and Local Regulatory and Law Enforcement Agencies
  • Ensure compliance with drug and alcohol testing, road safety, and administrative rules
  • Identify and implement best practices
  • Review and ensure compliance with accident policy and procedures and develop safety initiatives such as defensive driving courses
  • Administer audit process and scorecard system and report compliance at each location
Fleet Management
  • Understand all fleet-related metrics and implement plans to maximize truck efficiency
  • Train CDL Program Directors and Driver Trainers to maintain their trucks and ensure efficient truck operations
Cost-Saving Measures
  • Regularly review and make recommendations to improve efficiency across all aspects of the CDL business
  • Balance CDL schedule demands and business costs
Leadership and Development
  • Implement regulations
  • Hold others accountable
  • Conduct regular check-ins with CDL Program staff to review goals and performance, discuss and resolve issues, and provide the support needed to ensure success
  • Manage resources
  • Identify individual and team skill gaps
  • Coach and mentor staff
  • Involve CDL Program staff in new and challenging work assignments
  • Recommend employees for lateral assignments and promotions
Requirements
  • High school degree
  • 5 years of work experience in CDL driving and training
  • Experience overseeing multiple sites
  • Management experience
  • Working knowledge of FMCSA regulations
