Position Overview:
Under the guidance of the Engineering Manager, the Mechanical Design Engineer plays a crucial role in developing innovative solutions that enhance safety and efficiency for professionals in the rope rescue, rope access, and height work sectors.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Product Development: Lead the design initiatives for new products such as rope hardware, harnesses, and systems from concept through to production.
  • Enhance existing product designs by implementing improvements.
  • Utilize engineering principles and calculations to create detailed designs for components and assemblies, including tolerance analysis and appropriate drawing tolerances using GD&T.
  • Generate and maintain comprehensive product data packages, including design drawings, bills of materials, technical specifications, and component details for both new and existing products.
  • Document design and analysis processes in technical reports and presentations for design reviews.
  • Manage projects by developing budgets and timelines, estimating resources, and conducting necessary project meetings.
  • Collaborate with the product management team to establish product requirements and specifications.
  • Work alongside operations and manufacturing engineering to incorporate Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and assembly efficiency into product development.
  • Engage with the supply chain to assess and qualify new suppliers and processes.
  • Occasional travel may be required, involving moderate customer interaction and significant vendor engagement.

Prototyping and Testing:
  • Utilize rapid manufacturing techniques and onsite equipment to create proof of concept prototypes.
  • Develop testing protocols and plans to validate designs and ensure compliance with relevant standards.
  • Conduct product testing in the onsite laboratory and produce detailed test reports.
  • Support field testing initiatives in collaboration with industry experts.

Research and Development:
  • Investigate new concepts, processes, and technologies to improve design methodologies and inform product strategy.
  • Document findings and present insights to a cross-functional team.

Maintain consistent attendance and adhere to all company policies and procedures.

Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience is required, with a minimum of 5 years in the field—preferably 10+ years of relevant experience. A minimum of 5 years of experience in 3D solid modeling is required, with SolidWorks being highly desirable.

A combination of training, education, and experience that meets the qualifications listed above and provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.
