Civil Designer Job Description

At Dashiell, we are seeking a skilled Civil Designer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing routine design assignments, requiring knowledge and skill in basic design techniques and procedures, under close supervision. The primary function of this role is drafting, which will comprise a large portion of job responsibility. Thorough knowledge of CAD will be required.

Duties and Responsibilities
• Produce new drawings from examples of previous projects and/or standards with some supervision
• Research information in catalogues, specifications, corporate standards, or other reference material
• Calculate structure heights and weights, concrete volumes, equipment fit-up, or other basic tasks
• Learn and properly use the document management system
• Learn and apply corporate standard engineering practices
• Take personal responsibility for the quality and accuracy of his/her work
• Bring potential project-related problems and possible solutions to the attention of the responsible party
• Travel out of town for short periods of time as required by projects and assignments

Minimum Qualifications/Experience
• Associates degree in drafting & Design is required
• Extensive experience in drafting disciplines with a background in civil / structural or transmission design is strongly preferred
• Experience with AutoCAD 2010 or newer is required
• Experience with Microstation is a plus

Physical Requirements
• This position requires minimal physical effort
• Must be able to endure prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer for a minimum of 8 hours a day
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee will primarily work indoors, with occasional outdoor exposure to year around weather conditions and noise
• Must be able and willing to travel overnight for trainings and/or meetings as required (10%)
• Working extended hours, including weekends, may be required periodically
• May occasionally lift up to 25 pounds at a time
