Job Title: Painter Specialist - Campus Maintenance

About the Job: We are seeking a skilled and experienced Painter Specialist to join our team at Midwestern University. As a key member of our campus maintenance staff, you will be responsible for performing high-quality painting work on interior and exterior elements of our beautiful campuses.

Responsibilities:
  1. We are looking for someone who can read and interpret blueprints, sketches, instructions, or layouts to understand the work to be done.
  2. You will perform skilled painting work in the preparation, patching, finishing, and maintaining of all building structures, walls, woodwork, furniture, and equipment.
  3. The ideal candidate will have experience with commercial framing and painting methods and must have expert knowledge of surface tolerance for plaster, drywall, wood, metal, plastic, paint, and special coatings.
  4. As a Painter Specialist, you will be responsible for preparing surfaces for painting using sandpaper, power sanders, steel wool, wire brushes, paint removers, filling nail holes, cracks, or joints with putty, plaster, or other fillers.
  5. You will apply paints, stains, varnishes, enamel, or lacquer using paint brushes, rollers, and/or sprayers.
  6. The successful candidate will also be responsible for erecting, repairing, maintaining, and operating staging, rigging, and scaffolding following accepted safety practices.
  7. Other responsibilities include selecting the types and color of paints, varnish, or stain, and mixing, blending, and preparing the same for proper color match.
  8. You will operate, clean, and maintain hand and power tools, air compressors, and painting equipment as required.

Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED is required. Successful completion of a recognized painter apprenticeship program or three years of full-time journey-level painter experience is preferred. One year certificate from college or technical school is desired. Familiarity with commercial framing and painting methods is preferred. Expert knowledge of surface tolerance for plaster, drywall, wood, metal, plastic, paint, and special coatings is required. Must have a current U.S. driver's license.
