Job Summary

The Food Group is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Agricultural Training Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our staff, you will be responsible for delivering comprehensive training programs to new farmers, focusing on organic farm production, market development, and business management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Training Program Development
    • Design and deliver a 10-month organic farm production training program for new farmers, incorporating hands-on experiential learning and engaging classroom curriculum.
    • Develop educational training sessions on crop planning, management, and marketing, as well as financial literacy and record-keeping.
  • In-Field Training and Support
    • Manage the Market Garden Training Plot and coordinate in-field training sessions with students, ensuring effective communication and scheduling.
    • Execute engaging and informative hands-on trainings on crop and market production, food safety, and harvest handling.
  • Administrative and Program Support
    • Assist with farmer communication, coordinate with team members, and maintain accurate records for reporting and evaluation purposes.
    • Collaborate with other Food Group staff on program goals, sales strategies, and initiatives.
Requirements
  • Two-year degree in agriculture or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching and developing teaching materials, as well as practical knowledge of basic farm equipment operation.
  • Minimum of three seasons of organic farming experience and experience teaching and facilitating hands-on experiential trainings.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including verbal and written communication across various cultures.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize competing demands, and maintain a high level of attention to detail.
