Job Summary: As a Registered Dietitian at Kahuku Medical Center, you will be responsible for promoting and coordinating healthy eating habits to prevent and treat illness through supervision of food preparation and service, dietary modifications, and public education. You will communicate and collaborate with patients and KMC staff to ensure the diet needs of patients meet the guidelines of the Critical Access Hospital and Conditions of Participation.Key Responsibilities:
- Assess the nutritional status of patients and provide individualized nutrition care plans and education based on medical records and/or patient face-to-face interviews.
- Provide sound advice to patients on healthy eating habits and evaluate treatments of disease through nutrition.
- Document findings, actions, and summary assessments, follow-up and diet instructions, and comprehension in the KMC electronic medical record system.
- Educate and counsel patients of all ages and caregivers on modification of diet required for continued recovery.
- Review and modify patient room service meal selections as needed, communicate with the Dietary Department and providers, document for follow-up visits, snacks, and supplement needs.
- Promote and coordinate healthy eating habits to prevent and treat illness through supervision of food preparation and service, dietary modifications, and public education.
- Provide information to the medical team, including doctors, nurses, physical therapists, OTs, STs, and pharmacists for the care of patients in the inpatient and outpatient settings at KMC.
- Assist KMC staff and providers with discharge planning processes related to nutritional care plans.
Requirements:
- Registered Dietitian in the state of Hawaii required.
- One year's experience in dietetic work in a hospital setting required.
- Certified diabetes educator preferred.
- Two (2) years' experience in dietetic work preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of the Standards of Practice outlined by the American Dietetic Association.
- Knowledge and skills to assess and recommend nutritional needs of the population age groups that will be receiving services.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Thorough knowledge of software applications such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ability to interface effectively with all levels of management, staff, and physicians.
