Job Summary:

As a key member of our team, the Activity Therapist 2 will plan, direct, and coordinate therapeutic recreation programs to promote the mental and physical well-being of our clients. This role requires a strong understanding of therapeutic recreation principles and practices, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Conduct therapy sessions to improve clients' mental and physical well-being, using a variety of techniques and activities such as sports, gardening, dramatics, music, social activities, and arts and crafts.
  • Collaborate with the treatment team to plan and evaluate therapy programs, ensuring that they meet the unique needs and goals of each client.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans that are tailored to the individual needs and interests of each client, using a strengths-based approach.
  • Encourage clients with special needs and circumstances to acquire new skills and participate in health-promoting life skills and leisure activities.
  • Provide instruction and guidance to clients in activities and techniques designed to meet their specific physical or psychological needs.
  • Observe, analyze, and record clients' participation, reactions, and progress during treatment sessions, making adjustments to treatment programs as needed.
  • Obtain information from medical records, medical staff, family members, and clients themselves to assess clients' capabilities, needs, and interests.
  • Plan, organize, direct, and participate in treatment programs and activities to facilitate clients' rehabilitation, promote community integration, and prevent further medical problems.
  • Prepare and submit reports and charts to the treatment team to reflect clients' reactions and evidence of progress or regression.
Entry Qualifications:

A Bachelor's degree in a therapeutic recreation or related therapeutic discipline from an accredited college or university, and one year of related experience, or one year of experience at the lower level Activity Therapist 1 (HCP060) or position equivalent. Some positions may require registration in the area of assignment.

In addition to the entry qualifications, preferred qualifications may be added by the agency.
