Citizens Medical Center is seeking a highly skilled Patient Access Representative to join our team. As a Patient Access Representative, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth and efficient registration process for patients. Your primary responsibility will be to obtain and enter accurate demographic and insurance information into the electronic health record (EHR) system.
Key Responsibilities- Registration and Insurance Verification: Obtain and record accurate demographic and insurance information on patients by interviewing patients, family members, and physicians. Ensure that the correct insurance plan codes are utilized for the billing process.
- Consent Forms and Signatures: Explain consent forms to patients, obtain signatures, and respond to any questions in a professional manner.
- Patient Identification and Medical Records: Use patient identifiers consistently to properly identify patients and the correct medical records. Refrain from issuing new medical record numbers to patients with existing accounts.
- Meet Goals and Productivity Standards: Meet goals set by the department, including registration error rate, productivity/activities per hour, etc.
- Cash Collection and Posting: Collect payments based on pre-determined information, perform insurance verification to determine patient out-of-pocket expenses, and accurately post and receipt patient payments.
- Registration and Pre-Registration: Pre-register patients over the phone, pull orders, and coordinate with patient, referring physician's office, and other departments as needed.
- Insurance Verification and Benefits: Obtain insurance verification and benefits using automated verification tools, insurance carrier websites, or by phone. Prepare estimates for scheduled services and notify patients of any applicable out-of-pocket expenses.
- Bed Board and Midnight Census: Review midnight census for accuracy in room charges and accommodations. Assure order designates a status and enter patient into status based on order.
- Education: High School Diploma required; College or vocational courses/certificates with a medical focus preferred.
- Experience: Two years of experience in a strong customer service environment required; one year of registration experience in a hospital environment preferred.
- Skills and Abilities: Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language; proficient computer skills and ability to learn and navigate multiple software programs.
