Position Overview

UPMC - Pittsburgh Medical Center is looking for dedicated and enthusiastic individuals for our full-time Medical Assistant Trainee Program. This structured training initiative offers selected candidates the opportunity to participate in a comprehensive Medical Assistant course funded by UPMC, which encompasses clinical rotations, theoretical skills training, and an externship placement at a UPMC outpatient facility.

Program Requirements:

  • A commitment to a full-time schedule of 40 hours per week for a duration of 4-5 months, which includes:
    • Mandatory in-person attendance in the classroom from Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM
    • Self-study of course materials outside of classroom hours, estimated at 7-10 hours per week
  • A fixed hourly wage of $17.46.
  • A commitment to maintain employment in a full-time Medical Assistant position at UPMC for a minimum of 18 months following enrollment in the trainee program.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist healthcare providers in various patient care tasks, ensuring compliance with established protocols and enhancing patient satisfaction.
  • Manage patient medical records in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Oversee lab reports, hospital documentation, scheduling, insurance verification, and front office operations.
  • Prepare and uphold patient examination rooms, instruments, and equipment while adhering to infection control standards.
  • Facilitate patient flow, assist during examinations, gather patient information, and provide necessary instructions.
  • Respond to incoming calls, deliver patient education, and perform essential procedures such as phlebotomy, EKGs, and basic laboratory tests.
  • Support healthcare providers during procedures and accurately document relevant details in medical records.
  • Ensure adherence to regulatory compliance, maintain confidentiality, and follow UPMC Health System policies.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Current enrollment in a Medical Assistant training program is preferred.

Licensure and Clearances:

  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting
  • Act 33 PA Child Abuse Clearance
  • Act 34 PA Criminal Background Clearance
  • Act 73 PA FBI Fingerprint Clearance
