Position Overview:

An MRI Imaging Specialist functions under the supervision of a radiologist, utilizing advanced magnetic resonance imaging technology to conduct scans and produce high-quality images. These professionals are graduates of accredited 2 or 4-year programs and must hold certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists as well as licensure from the State of New York. The patient population served is determined by the department's scope of services.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conducts imaging examinations in accordance with specific protocols to ensure high-quality imaging results.
  • Possesses comprehensive knowledge of modality-specific ancillary equipment, including laser cameras, fluoroscopic devices, contrast injectors, and quality control phantoms.
  • Handles and administers contrast agents safely, including barium and iodinated agents.
  • Maintains accurate documentation of all relevant patient and procedural information, including patient history and demographics.
  • Prepares patients for procedures by providing clear instructions to achieve optimal results and alleviate anxiety.
  • Implements safety protocols to minimize risks to patients and staff, adhering to established standards such as ALARA and MRI safety guidelines.
  • Conducts ongoing assessments of patients' conditions during procedures, ensuring their physical and psychological needs are met.
  • Assists in performing quality assurance and quality control procedures to ensure equipment compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Takes responsibility for maintaining cleanliness and organization in assigned areas, ensuring all rooms are stocked and compliant with modality standards.
  • Participates in performance improvement initiatives specific to the modality.
  • Facilitates effective communication with team members, including training on equipment and patient care.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in computer applications related to health information systems and imaging technologies.
  • Exhibits analytical skills and problem-solving abilities.
  • Adheres to all attendance and punctuality policies.
  • Engages in educational opportunities relevant to job responsibilities as necessary.
  • Maintains all required licenses and professional certifications, including continuing education as mandated.
Qualifications:

Education: Graduate from an accredited Radiologic Technology program with specialized training in MRI.

Experience: Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience required.

Licensure: A.R.R.T. (R) and NYS DOH certification required.

Preferred: A.R.R.T. (MR) certification and NYS DOH IV Certification.

Working Conditions:
  • Some manual dexterity and motor coordination required.
  • Potential exposure to occupational hazards.
  • May require lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Possible exposure to various environmental factors.
