Job Summary:

We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Occupational Therapist to work with patients who have conditions affecting the hands and upper extremity. As a Hand Specialist, you will be responsible for evaluating and treating patients with a wide range of hand and upper extremity conditions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Patient Assessment: Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients with hand and upper extremity conditions to determine their needs, limitations, and goals.
  • Treatment Planning: Develop customized treatment plans based on individual patient assessments, medical history, and the nature of the injury or condition.
  • Orthotic Fabrication: Design and create custom orthotic devices, such as splints or braces, to support and protect injured or surgically repaired hands and arms.
  • Therapeutic Interventions: Administer a wide range of therapeutic techniques, including manual therapy, exercises, and modalities like ultrasound, electrical stimulation, and heat/cold therapy.
  • Scar Management: Address scar tissue issues through manual techniques, scar massage, and other therapeutic interventions to improve scar mobility and appearance.
  • Wound Care: Provide wound care for patients with hand injuries or post-operative wounds to promote healing and prevent infection.
  • Pain Management: Develop pain management strategies, which may include modalities and techniques to alleviate pain and discomfort.
  • Range of Motion Restoration: Work to restore and improve joint mobility, muscle strength, and range of motion in the hand and upper extremity.
  • Functional Training: Implement exercises and activities that focus on restoring functional hand and arm abilities, such as grasping, gripping, and fine motor skills.
  • Edema Control: Employ techniques to manage and reduce swelling (edema) in the hand and upper extremity.
  • Patient Education: Educate patients and their families about their conditions, treatment plans, and home exercise programs to promote recovery and prevent further complications.

Requirements:

  • Licensure: Occupational Therapy or Physical Therapy License
  • Certification: Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) preferred
  • Skills: Experience with Hand Therapy, Customer Service, Communication, Creative Problem Solving
