Position Summary:

Role Overview:
Orthodontic Support Specialist (Dental/Orthodontic Assistant)

Supervision:
Reports to the Orthodontist & Practice Manager

Key Responsibilities:

Orthodontic Support Specialists provide essential chairside assistance to orthodontists and ensure that patients are well-informed about orthodontic treatments and aftercare for braces.

They prepare for patient appointments, sterilize orthodontic instruments, and make adjustments to braces under the guidance of the orthodontist. Building rapport with each patient is crucial to delivering a unique and positive experience.

Core Responsibilities:
- Assist in the placement and removal of orthodontic devices.
- Perform X-Rays/Scans and create molds and impressions for retainers.
- Document patient progress through photography.
- Maintain accurate records of patients' oral health and treatment history.
- Ensure all orthodontic tools and equipment are properly sterilized before use.
- Treat each patient with respect and provide an exceptional experience.
- Support orthodontists by preparing for procedures, organizing instruments, and managing patient comfort.
- Communicate any concerns regarding patient progress to the orthodontist.
- Educate patients and their families on proper oral hygiene and braces care.
- Learn and become proficient in electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
- Collaborate with the team and patients to coordinate scheduling.
- Cross-train in front office tasks and assist as needed.
- Make adjustments to braces, brackets, and bands as directed by the orthodontist.
- Accompany patients from the waiting area to the treatment chair while engaging in conversation.

Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Basic computer skills.
- Flexible availability.

Preferred Qualifications:
- RDA or CA Certification.
- Associate's Degree in a related field.
- CPR Certification.
- 1-2 years of recent experience in a dental setting.
