Academic Counselor

We are seeking a highly skilled Academic Counselor to join our team at Yosemite Community College District. As a key member of our Student Services department, you will play a vital role in supporting the academic success and personal growth of our students.

As an Academic Counselor, you will work closely with students to help them achieve their academic and career goals. You will provide individualized guidance and support, helping students to navigate the college experience and make informed decisions about their academic and career paths.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct individual student counseling appointments and group workshops
• Help students understand the college application process and register for classes
• Assist students in determining their career goals and linking them to educational objectives
• Advise students on course selections and create educational plans using digital software
• Discuss university transfer options and help students make informed decisions
• Refer students to relevant student support services on campus

Requirements:

• Master's degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, or a related field
• Knowledge of and ability to appraise the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students
• Sensitivity to the needs, problems, and challenges associated with the diversity of the community college student population

Preferred Qualifications:

• Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the racial, socio-economic, academic, and cultural diversity within student populations
• Education and/or experience in teaching guidance or skills development at the community college level
• Competency in current pedagogies, such as accelerated learning, supplemental instruction, online or hybrid teaching, and other strategies directed at improving student success and student equity
