Position Overview:
This role is essential in delivering clinical and technical assistance, collaborating with nursing and medical personnel to ensure optimal patient care, while also performing administrative and communication tasks to support the efficient operation of the Care Center services. Responsibilities are executed in accordance with established standards outlined in the competency evaluation framework. The individual in this role will uphold the mission, vision, values, and strategic goals of Mary Washington Healthcare, demonstrating a commitment to quality service for patients, physicians, the community, and colleagues.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Exhibit performance in alignment with expectations and standards defined in the position description.
  • Foster collaborative relationships with MWHC/ED staff, nursing, and physicians through effective verbal communication and precise documentation.
  • Assist nursing staff in gathering patient data and samples.
  • Support nursing and medical staff by executing designated patient care tasks.
  • Engage in unit and MWHC infection control initiatives and performance enhancement processes.
  • Assist the Manager with regulatory compliance as necessary.
  • Contribute to the unit's risk management strategy.
  • Demonstrate proficient communication, customer service, and teamwork abilities.
  • Take responsibility for personal professional development, regulatory compliance, and educational requirements at the departmental level.
  • Maintain licensure or certifications relevant to the position throughout employment.
  • Exhibit proficiency in clerical tasks utilizing the hospital's information systems.
  • Facilitate communication among diagnostic/testing areas, patient care areas, and families.
  • Respond to patient call light systems promptly.
  • Relay patient and family requests to the appropriate personnel immediately upon receipt.
  • Act on patient and family requests when suitable.
  • Serve as a welcoming unit receptionist for associates, physicians, patients, families, and visitors.
  • Coordinate physician and departmental consultations until completion.
  • Ensure a safe and organized environment.
  • Collaborate with the Supply Agent to manage equipment and supply needs.
  • Assist in cleaning and maintaining medical equipment.
  • Notify the relevant department of any equipment malfunctions.
  • Initiate emergency protocols as directed.
  • Perform additional duties as necessary, including responsibilities of other care team members.
  • Execute Communication Coordinator duties and responsibilities as required.
  • Conduct venipuncture and initiate IVs.
  • Perform phlebotomy and specimen collection with appropriate labeling and transport.
  • Apply cardiac monitoring as needed; perform 12-lead EKGs.
  • Prepare sterile trays for suturing and sterile procedures.
  • Insert foley catheters when appropriate; document intake and output.
  • Carry out splinting and/or application of orthopedic devices per physician orders.
Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Current Virginia State EMT Certification and/or National Registry required.
  • AHA CPR certification required.
  • One (1) year of experience as an EMT, military corpsman, or in a clinical setting preferred.
  • AHA ACLS and PALS certifications preferred.
