Job Summary:

A Senior Linux Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining Linux systems and applications. This role involves troubleshooting and resolving complex Linux-related issues, and leading projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the production and development teams to resolve Linux server-related issues.
  • Develop and oversee backup, replication, and disaster recovery strategies.
  • Maintain documentation for procedures, configurations, and programs.
  • Collaborate with the team to define and implement best practices and standards.
  • Ensure Linux servers adhere to industry and departmental standards.
  • Develop automations, frameworks, and scripting with team members or other IT departments.
  • Maintain software repositories and apply software updates.
  • Install, configure, and maintain servers and applications on servers as needed for other teams.
  • Maintain/monitor the health of Linux servers through automated and manual processes.
  • Resolve user issues, address change management requests, and identify potential issues by implementing protective measures.
  • Understanding of configuration management tools.
  • Experience with cloud computing.
  • Tune operating systems and applications to increase performance and reliability.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science (Preferred), MIS, related field, or 8 years of experience in IT.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of related IT experience.
  • Previous project management experience preferred.
  • Previous experience with handling and resolving multiple high-complexity issues.
  • Strong working knowledge of Linux/Unix system fundamentals and common network protocols.
  • Experience managing Linux/UNIX operating systems in a heterogeneous environment.
  • Solid understanding of networked computing environment concepts.
  • Ability to develop and maintain programs and scripts that aid in the operation and automation of administrative tasks using various shell and scripting languages.
  • Ability to identify requirements and to define, plan, and implement requisite solutions.
  • Ability to plan, organize, prioritize tasks, and complete assigned projects with minimal supervision.
  • Experience with continuous integration and continuous deployment software methodologies and how they apply to systems engineering.
  • Experience designing and implementing highly available systems/services.
  • Experience participating in an open-source community with patches accepted upstream.
  • Experience deploying and maintaining automated configuration management software.
  • Experience deploying and maintaining virtualized environments using VMWare and Cloud Solutions.
  • Experience implementing systems-level security technologies and following security best-practices.

Additional Requirements:

  • Availability to work outside of scheduled hours.
