Job Overview

F.H. Paschen is seeking a skilled Estimator to support and work with management, operations, and estimating staff in reviewing project plans, requirements, and specifications. The successful candidate will generate budgets, estimates, and proposals with a deep understanding of constructability, means and methods, logistics, schedule, risk, and profitability of each project.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise Project Engineers, Assistant Project Managers, and Construction Interns assigned to contracts and/or work orders
  • Create work proposals and review proposal specifications and drawings to determine scope of work and required estimate contents
  • Prepare discipline estimates by calculating complete takeoff of scope of work and maintain files of working documents as backup for estimate figures
  • Review design options and recommend best solutions based on cost, engineering quality, or availability of materials
  • Interact with owners, architects/engineers, and other contractors to provide engineering and cost data regarding project feasibility
  • Negotiate financial disputes and change orders with owners and document and negotiate changes that may affect project completion or contract costs with subcontractors and owners
  • Develop field quality assurance and quality control plans with Superintendents and collaborate on project safety plans
  • Manage MBE/WBE subcontracting requirements and EEO/Affirmative action contract requirements

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Construction Engineering, or a related field
  • 5-8 years of estimating, cost control, project management, and/or engineering experience in a construction environment
  • Knowledge of estimating techniques and cost control, plus ability to interpret computerized cost data and systems
