Responsibilities
  • Prepare and dispense medications, including floor stock requisitions, carts, and automated distribution machine fill lists.
  • Deliver and retrieve products to the hospital and clinics as needed.
  • Perform dispensing and reporting functions in the automated drug distribution system.
  • Accurately prepare medications and promptly deliver to hospital/clinics.
  • Assist in compounding and dispensing medicines that are not readily available from manufacturers.
  • Repackage medications for unit of use, patient starter dose packages, and prescriptions for the ED pre-packs.
  • Maintain the Minnesota Prescription Monitoring database.
  • Maintain all packaging and compounding records.
  • Assure the pharmacist check/verification prior to dispensing the medication.
  • Prepare controlled substances for distribution to the hospital/clinics.
  • Accurately and efficiently fill, label, and prepare prescriptions for discharge prescriptions as applicable.
  • Read and enter appropriate information into the computer system to generate accurate prescription labels, profiles, and charges.
  • Aseptically compound sterile hazardous and non-hazardous products according to MN BOP and USP 800 standards.
  • Appropriately and promptly label all sterile products.
  • Deliver admixtures to the appropriate departments.
  • Document and check stock monthly for outdated medications, proper labeling, and storage.
  • Prepare quality assurance checklists and provide a report to the pharmacy manager monthly.
  • Analyze automated drug distribution reports to ascertain medication usage patterns.
  • Assist Cerner Support Team and Informatics pharmacist in revising, updating, and adding/deleting medications from the Cerner database.
  • Assist the director of pharmacy in preparing drug diversion audits.
  • Assist the purchasing technician as necessary.
  • Assure that all records received are accurate and complete.
  • Perform duties as assigned by the pharmacist and pharmacy manager.
  • Effectively communicate with clinicians, nurses, pharmacists, other technicians, hospital personnel, and patients.
  • Answer and transfer any telephone calls requiring professional judgment to the pharmacist.
  • Adhere to telephone etiquette at all times.
  • Maintain a neat, clean, orderly, and well-stocked work area.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Pharmacy Technician Certification required within 2 years of hire.
  • Minnesota Pharmacy Technician Registration.
  • BLS certification.
  • Excellent communication skills, flexibility, and ability to work as part of a dynamic team.
  • Self-directed with excellent time management skills and able to work within a schedule.
