Make the Road Nevada (MRNV) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering immigrant communities across the state. Our mission is to build a robust grassroots movement in Nevada, particularly in Las Vegas, to elevate the voices and power of working-class immigrants.

As part of our commitment to social justice, Make the Road Action (MRA) focuses on mobilizing low-income communities of color across multiple states, including Nevada. We aim to create meaningful social change by connecting voters with critical issues and candidates that impact their lives.

Current Opportunity:

The Northern Nevada Immigrant Justice Organizer will play a pivotal role in engaging and recruiting community members to lead campaigns addressing local, state, and federal issues. This position is centered on organizing low-income and immigrant populations to participate in collective actions aimed at advancing causes such as housing rights, immigration reform, fair wages, working conditions, healthcare access, reproductive rights, LGBTQIA+ rights, and combating systemic racism.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Community Engagement and Campaign Development: Lead efforts to build a strong base of support and recruit new members for MRNV/MRA.
  • Formulate both short-term and long-term strategies for the immigration campaign, collaborating closely with the lead organizer and organizing director.
  • Maintain professional relationships with partners and stakeholders on behalf of MRNV/MRA.
  • Conduct weekly meetings with the Lead Organizer to assess progress towards goals and metrics.
  • Monitor and analyze developments at local, state, and federal levels related to immigration to inform campaign strategies.
  • Organize outreach efforts and meetings to foster civic engagement and leadership among members and allies.
  • Create informative materials such as fact sheets, agendas, and event memos.
  • Develop and track personal work plans and campaign objectives with guidance from leadership.
  • Participate in phone banking, canvassing, and fieldwork alongside base organizers.
  • Support grant-related deliverables as necessary.
  • Travel to community events and activities using personal transportation.
  • Utilize personal devices for work-related communications.
  • Work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to support campaign initiatives.
  • Attend various events to promote the broader mission of the organization.
  • Maintain a physical presence in the office as required.
  • Follow up with potential leads in a timely manner as part of MRNV's outreach strategy.

Member Engagement and Leadership Development:

  • Recruit and mobilize community members to actively participate in MRNV/MRA initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the organizing team to facilitate general membership and committee meetings.
  • Design and deliver training sessions and workshops aligned with organizational priorities.
  • Empower members to become confident leaders capable of recruiting and organizing others.
  • Encourage members to take on volunteer roles within the immigration committee and support their leadership journey.

Public Relations and Advocacy:

  • Represent MRNV/MRA members in coalitions and with elected officials.
  • Assist the civic engagement team in ensuring member voices are heard in discussions with officials and candidates.
  • Communicate about MRNV's initiatives and campaigns in public forums and to the media, training members to do the same.

Qualifications:

  • Must be eligible to work in the United States.
  • Full vaccination against COVID-19 is required prior to employment.
  • At least one year of experience in organizing or program management.
  • Strong commitment to social justice, particularly in immigration advocacy.
  • Availability for regular evening and occasional weekend work.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish.
  • Passion for improving the lives of immigrants and working-class Nevadans.
  • Ability to navigate complex relationships and build consensus among diverse groups.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office or Google Drive Suite.
  • Willingness to learn about database and communication tools.
