Position Overview

Under the supervision of a Neurologist and designated Supervisor, the Neurodiagnostic Technologist conducts neurophysiological assessments at a technical level. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of both normal and abnormal electrical brain activity. Responsibilities include test preparation, electrode placement, and ensuring patient safety during critical clinical events.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of technical procedures that necessitate independent judgment and innovative application of neurophysiology techniques for neurological evaluations.
  • Take ownership of specific procedural areas and ensure high standards of care across all age groups, from neonates to seniors.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Licensure/Certifications: Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification; EEG Certification is required upon hire or within two years.
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED is mandatory.
  • Experience: A minimum of one year of supervised training or clinical experience in a laboratory environment is essential. Familiarity with various modalities such as EEG, Evoked Potentials, Intraoperative Monitoring, Long Term Monitoring, and Nerve Conduction Studies is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Licensure/Certifications: Additional certifications are advantageous.
  • Education: Enrollment in or graduation from a CAAHEP accredited Electroneurodiagnostic Program, or possession of an Associate's Degree or higher from an accredited institution.
  • Experience: Relevant experience in the field is preferred.

Essential Skills and Abilities

  • Proficient in executing quality neurodiagnostic procedures.
  • Able to work autonomously while collaborating effectively with colleagues.
  • Basic knowledge of PC operations and Microsoft Windows.

Core Responsibilities

  • Familiarity with protocols for technical report completion, patient charging procedures, and file management.
  • Operate neurodiagnostic equipment in accordance with specifications, ensuring quality study outputs. Adhere to infection control and safety protocols while maintaining a tidy work environment. Conduct basic to intermediate troubleshooting of equipment, recognize and eliminate artifacts, and understand electrode maintenance. Follow established safety practices, including infection control standards, lead placement, patient monitoring/documentation, and equipment sanitation. Consistently produce quality studies in line with established protocols and maintain accurate patient records.
  • Assist with non-technical duties as needed, such as stocking supplies, patient transport, and ordering materials. Participate in departmental meetings and training sessions, prepare patient rooms for EEG procedures, and contribute to the onboarding of new staff.
