Job Summary

The Boiler Operator/Mechanic is a full-time position within Facilities at Vassar College, responsible for operating and maintaining the steam boilers and associated auxiliary systems. This role requires a strong understanding of high-pressure boilers and related systems, equipment, and controls. The ideal candidate will have four years of experience in all aspects of operation, maintenance, and repair of high-pressure boilers and related systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate and maintain steam boilers and associated auxiliary systems
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on high-pressure boilers and related equipment
  • Read and interpret written instructions, manufacturer's manuals, and engineering drawings
  • Use personal protective equipment and work in extreme environments
  • Work independently with minimal supervision and identify hazards and report to appropriate personnel
  • Communicate effectively in English and possess a valid driver's license

Requirements
  • Four years of experience in high-pressure boiler operation, maintenance, and repair
  • Strong understanding of high-pressure boilers and related systems, equipment, and controls
  • Ability to read and interpret written instructions, manufacturer's manuals, and engineering drawings
  • Ability to work in extreme environments and use personal protective equipment
  • Valid driver's license and ability to communicate effectively in English

Working Conditions

This is a full-time, benefit-eligible position with a rotating shift schedule that includes holidays and weekends. Overtime, including responding to after-hour and weekend emergencies, is assigned according to seniority guidelines.
