Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Clinical Informatics Specialist to join our team at MLK Community Healthcare. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and maintaining our electronic health record system, ensuring seamless integration with clinical applications and databases.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Design and implement complex enterprise projects, establishing strategic and short-term plans for information technology systems that support clinical operations.
  2. Develop and support clinical information system training, coordinating all health information system operations activities in support of interdisciplinary clinical practice, clinical decision-making quality assessment, and patient safety initiatives.
  3. Translate clinician requirements into specifications for clinical information system redesign of the workflow as needed within the electronic health record.
  4. Coordinate and manage the design, acquisition, training, and implementation of clinical/healthcare informatics, including software validation, clinical content development, user acceptance testing, business process re-engineering, training, and HIT upgrades related to the electronic healthcare record.
  5. Organize teams/workgroups to support the effective ongoing efforts of the electronic health record documentation systems to achieve maximum benefits.
  6. Identify applicable information systems that support the clinical disciplines by coordinating the research, selection, and planning implementation of clinical applications related to the electronic health record.
  7. Facilitate effective communications between different clinical user groups to ensure smooth implementation of functional elements, applications, and major upgrades that require the development, training, and implementation of accurate and complete and compliant to regulatory requirements for the clinical information systems and procedures.
  8. Identify risks, potential impact, and mitigation strategies and implement corrective action plans related to the electronic health record optimization requirements.
  9. Work with hospital leadership, department managers, clinicians, and physicians to facilitate problem-solving and ongoing communication.
  10. Work collaboratively with hospital leadership to facilitate completion of periodic change and optimization assessments within the hospital.
  11. Serve as a primary resource to the education department with regards to all clinical applications and affiliates, all system upgrades, and training refreshers needing to incorporate into the ongoing hospital orientation and training.
  12. Assess clinical staff understanding in using the clinical systems, post-implementation and upgrades, and make recommendations as needed relative to performance, compliance, and ongoing training needs.
  13. Use a structured problem-solving methodology to identify and clarify issues and then develop, implement, and evaluate informatics solutions.
  14. Responsible for recommending solutions to problems related to an effective electronic health record after careful analysis of each issue that is raised within the clinical environment.
  15. Complete all specialized training congruent with HIT department and demonstrate the ability to cross-train within clinical modalities and informatics environments to analyze the electronic health record's inner workings.
  16. Perform clinical rounds within the various medical, nursing, and ancillary arenas to validate usefulness of the electronic health record's documentation system and compliance to policy and procedure and regulatory validation requirements.
  17. Ability to prioritize responsibility and multi-task efficiently and effectively at all times.
  18. Ability to work under pressure and definitive timelines while performing calmly and effectively in a busy or stressful situation.
  19. Follow all written policies and procedures of the hospital.
  20. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

A. Education

  • Bachelor of Science degree in nursing (individuals without a BSN will be required to complete the degree within 5 years of their hire date).

B. Qualifications/Experience

  • Minimum of two (2) years of ambulatory or acute care experience required with at least one to two years of clinical IT experience working with an electronic health record data system and documentation requirements.
  • Current California Nursing license.

C. Special Skills/Knowledge

  • At least two years of experience in Cerner functionality to include PowerChart Ambulatory modules.
  • Knowledge of Cerner's HealtheIntent platform to include HealtheCare, HealtheRegistries, and HCC's.
  • Additional experience in reporting out of Cerner and/or Tableau dashboards is a plus.
