Job Summary

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is a key member of the healthcare team, responsible for providing high-quality patient care in a designated service. The NP performs comprehensive assessments, conducts physical examinations, and collaborates with other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless patient care.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Practices under established protocols and guidelines, adhering to Kaiser Permanente's policies and California Board of Registered Nursing requirements.
  • Conducts age-appropriate assessments, including history taking and physical examinations, in accordance with department protocols.
  • Performs ongoing systematic assessments, focusing on physiologic, psychosocial, cultural, spiritual, and cognitive status, as well as patient education and family involvement.
  • Consults with supervising physicians or other clinicians as needed, based on patient assessment findings.
  • Participates in the department's quality improvement initiatives, ensuring effective patient care consistent with established quality indicators.
  • Reviews medical records for follow-up or ordering of diagnostic studies under established protocols.
  • Establishes and maintains effective communication with other healthcare providers and departments to ensure operational efficiency and consistency of care.
  • Delegates tasks and coordinates duties with healthcare team members, evaluating their effectiveness and providing feedback.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of safety principles and applies them in emergency situations, remaining calm and documenting events as necessary.
  • Participates in staff development activities, demonstrating a commitment to professional growth and patient care excellence.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 6 months experience as a nurse practitioner.
  • One year of experience within the past three years as a NP providing care for orthopedic conditions.
  • Masters Degree in Nursing (unless already a Kaiser Permanente employee who was grandfathered in prior to California Business and Professions Code requirement in January 1, 2008).
  • Completion of a masters program in Adult NP, Family Practice NP, Acute Care NP, or Pediatric NP, as required for the specific patient population.
  • Nurse Practitioner Certificate (California), Registered Nurse License (California), Nurse Practitioner Furnishing Number (California), and National Provider Identifier required at hire.
Additional Requirements:
  • Meet credentialing requirements established for nurse practitioners within the Kaiser system.
  • Apply for PTAN (Provider Transaction Account Number) at the time of hire and within 30 days of hire.
  • Refer to Position Specifications outlined in the appropriate collective bargaining agreement.
