Job Summary

The City of Bozeman is seeking a highly skilled and experienced City Engineer to lead the Engineering Division. As a key member of the Transportation and Engineering team, you will be responsible for directing, supervising, and planning the daily operations of the division, including assigning work schedules, setting priorities, and reviewing and evaluating work completed and in progress.

Key Responsibilities
  • Direct, supervise, and plan the daily operations of the Engineering Division
  • Assign work schedules, set priorities, and review and evaluate work completed and in progress
  • Enforce compliance with Federal, State, and local codes, ordinances, laws, and regulations
  • Prepare, interpret, and administer policies, procedures, and ordinances
  • Oversee division personnel functions, including recruiting, selecting, hiring, training, motivating, evaluating, promoting, and disciplining assigned personnel
  • Address and resolve staff technical and job-related questions and concerns
  • Prepare and administer the division's annual operational budget
  • Review and coordinate the creation and implementation of Special Improvement Districts and infrastructure payback districts
  • Serve as the City's chief engineer, providing technical engineering services, advice, information, and recommendations to the Director of Transportation and Engineering, Assistant City Manager, City Manager, City Commission, and City department and division heads
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering Technology, or a closely related field
  • Extensive experience in civil engineering, surveying/drafting, and public works and utilities planning, design, and construction
  • Considerable supervisory experience
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of Montana
