POSITION OVERVIEW
The Surgical Physician Assistant is a licensed and certified healthcare professional who provides direct patient care, possesses delegated prescriptive authority, and is recognized as an independent billing provider under Medicare and Medicaid guidelines. This role involves collaborating with supervising physicians to deliver medical care within the established scope of practice.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work primarily Monday through Friday, with occasional office call and weekend rounds.
- Conduct comprehensive physical examinations and gather detailed medical histories to assess patient conditions.
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests to evaluate patient health and treatment needs.
- Prescribe and implement therapeutic treatments, ensuring adherence to safety and efficacy standards.
- Develop and execute patient treatment plans based on assessments and evidence-based practices, collaborating with healthcare team members.
- Provide education and counseling to patients and families regarding health management, medication, and nutrition.
- Maintain accurate records of patient treatment plans and outcomes, ensuring timely referrals when necessary.
- Deliver specialized consultation services related to orthopedic conditions.
- Manage patient care in various healthcare settings, including inpatient and surgical environments.
- Perform invasive procedures within the scope of practice as delegated by supervising physicians.
- Engage in all phases of perioperative patient management, including pre-operative and post-operative care.
- Be available to provide patient care beyond regular hours as departmental needs arise.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
- In-depth knowledge of diagnostic and treatment methodologies for musculoskeletal conditions.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in using medical software and technology.
- Ability to formulate comprehensive treatment plans and counsel patients effectively.
- Current Texas Physician Assistant license and NCCPA certification required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire.
