Job Summary

As a Cardiac Rehabilitation Clinician at Memorial Healthcare, you will work under the supervision of the Manager of Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab and cooperatively with medical staff. Your primary responsibility will be to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate teaching, exercise, and discharge planning needs of the cardiovascular patient in Phase I, II, or III Cardiac Rehabilitation and Pulmonary Rehabilitation. You will strive for superior performance by consistently providing a product of service to leadership and staff that is recognized as ultimately contributing to the patient and family experience.

Job Responsibilities
  • Assess the physical, psychological, and social dimensions and the educational needs of the patient upon referral and complete a written assessment.
  • Plan for the teaching and learning needs of the cardiac patients in Phase I, II, and III along with pulmonary patients.
  • Implement a plan of care including proper activity levels, education, and discharge planning needs.
  • Evaluate the plan of care, recognize changes in status of the patient, and provide appropriate intervention and documentation.
  • Monitor and evaluate patients during exercise modalities in Phases I, II and III with emergency intervention as indicated.
  • Act as a resource person regarding care of cardiac and pulmonary patients to staff, community.
  • Participate in in-service and/or continuing education to maintain and improve understanding of the present and future trends in healthcare, and participate in unit and hospital wide committees to identify needs and assist in problem solving.
  • Communicate identified unit problems following appropriate chain of command (Manager of Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab, Corporate Director of Operations), and actively participate in the problem-solving process.
  • Demonstrate job-related aspects of patient safety to assure a safe environment, safe and effective use of equipment and technology, and decreased risk of potential adverse patient occurrences.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and supports hospital mission, vision, value statements, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality statements, corporate compliance plan, customer service standards, and the code of ethical behavior.
  • Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served on his/her assigned unit. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the unit's and division's policies and procedures.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Job Specifications
  • Education: Graduate from an accredited school of Science or Nursing. BS in Science or nursing or related field preferred. ACLS certification required. Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
  • Experience: 1-2 years of Exercise Physiology or Critical Care nursing is preferred.
  • Essential Physical Requirements: Travel independently throughout the hospital or clinic. Access a patient and his/her equipment for the purpose of assessment/treatment. Safely move patients as ordered. Physically participate in exercise sessions as needed including stooping, bending, reaching above head, reaching forward, etc.
  • Essential Mental Abilities: Complete a history and initial assessment of patient's condition to formulate a plan based upon the assessment and to evaluate patient's reactions to the plan. Understand physician's orders. Document assessment, interventions, and evaluation. Interpret cardiac rhythms. Work well under pressure.
  • Essential Technical/Motor Skills: Hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills for administration of emergency care if indicated and monitoring of patients during activity sessions. Demonstrate use of all equipment. Utilize computer.
  • Essential Sensory Requirements: Communicate receptively and expressively in English, both written and verbal, with diverse populations including physicians, patients, families, community agencies, employees, and volunteers. Visually assess patient's condition and to auscultate lung and heart sounds, blood pressures, etc. See and interpret cardiac monitor. Accurately hear communication by phone or in person. Maintain self control.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Interact effectively with patients and their families, public, physician and other Memorial Healthcare staff to provide appropriate and complete patient care. Maintain a professional and courteous manner. Maintain confidentiality.
