Environmental Health and Safety Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Environmental Health and Safety Specialist to join our team at San Jose State University. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, implementing, and conducting an overall safety program for the Moss Landing Marine Laboratories.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and audits to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
- Provide training and education to faculty, staff, and students on safety protocols and procedures.
- Investigate and report incidents and near-misses, and develop corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure a safe and healthy work environment.
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field.
- Four years of experience in environmental health and safety, preferably in a university setting.
- Strong knowledge of state and federal regulations, including OSHA and Cal/OSHA.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Master's degree in Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field.
- Certification in environmental health and safety, such as CIH or CSP.
- Experience with safety software and training programs.
